Claim: Israel PM Olmert Got Illegal Donations

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert denied late Thursday that he took illegal campaign contributions but said he’ll resign if indicted. In a nationally televised speech late Thursday at his official residence, Olmert responded to allegations in a corruption case that has the potential to derail delicate peace talks with the Palestinians. Police suspect that Olmert accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars in illegal contributions from a U.S. citizen, Morris “Moshe” Talansky. Army Radio said suspicions concern money Olmert allegedly received from 1999 to 2003, when he was mayor of Jerusalem and later minister of industry and trade. [Link]

Heidi, with a sly look, said: “Obviously we’re entertainers. We are trying to entertain in every aspect of our lives. Whether it’s on the show or in the tabloids.” Harvey Levin, the TMZ guru, said this fakeness factor actually adds to the fun: “They are so lame, and so staged and canned, that it makes it almost entertaining and fun to poke fun at. TV Advertising To Get Slammed

Merrill Lynch analyst Jessica Reif Cohen dumped cold water on hopes for a strong “upfront” ad sales session when the talks begin next week. She thinks the overall market for prime time broadcast TV will be down anywhere from 2% ($8.79 billion) to 14% ($7.73 billion) from the $8.9 billion spent last year. There’s been a ton of posturing from CBS (CBS), Disney (DIS) and News Corp. (NWS) about the high prices they’re getting for ads this spring in the so-called “scatter” market of remnant ads. Their conclusion is that it means the upfront — where 80% of TV ad inventory for the coming year is sold — will also be strong. [Link]

Interpol Catches Suspected Pedophile Wayne Nelson Corliss In New Jersey

Wayne Nelson Corliss, 58, was detained in Union City, N.J., Interpol said. He is suspected of sexually abusing at least three boys from Southeast Asia thought to have been as young as 6 to 10 years old, the international police agency said. Interpol had asked for the public’s help because two years of police investigations had failed to determine the man’s identity, nationality and whereabouts. It was only the second time that Interpol had launched such a public manhunt for a suspected pedophile. The first time, in October, led to the quick arrest by police in Thailand of Christopher Paul Neil, a 32-year-old Canadian. [Link]
