“Bono and The Edge have described their forthcoming Spider-Man musical as “dizzy” and “not a straight take on the myth”. Turn Off The Dark, the production the Dublin band has written music and lyrics for, is set to open on Broadway in New York in 2010. “‘American Buffalo,’ a revival of the David Mamet play starring former child star Haley Joel Osment, Cedric the Entertainer and John Leguizamo, is due to play its final performance on Sunday, just one week after opening night. It received mostly poor reviews and will close unless it sees a sharp rise in ticket sales, producers said on Thursday. South Park Creators To Spoof Mormon Church In Musical

“The creators of the cartoon South Park, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, are planning to stage a Broadway musical based on the lives and (many) loves of typical members of the Church of the Latter Day Saints. It will be co-written by the composer Robert Lopez, who wrote Avenue Q, the award-winning musical which sends-up another all-American institution, Sesame Street. Cheyenne Jackson, an openly-gay Broadway star who appeared in the film United 93, said this week that he has agreed to play the lead role, a Mormon missionary, in the show, which is currently being work-shopped and is slated to open in 2009.” [Link]
