“Five Lewisville ISD cheerleaders accused of using illegal drugs at a private camp last weekend will be suspended from their squads for three events, a district spokeswoman said today. The five students, both girls and boys, attend two high schools: Lewisville and Marcus.” Link

“Caroline Maria McNeal of Huntingdon is accused of using the passwords of three co-workers without their knowledge to tamper with dozens of grades and test scores between May 2006 and July 2007 at Huntingdon Area High School in central Pennsylvania, the state attorney general’s office said. McNeal, 39, is alleged to have improved her daughter Brittany’s grades and reduced those of two classmates to enhance Brittany’s standing in the 2008 graduating class.” Link
“Ed Thomas was shot by an adult male, who was quickly taken into custody, school and sheriff’s officials said. He was airlifted to a hospital in Waterloo, where a spokeswoman said he died. The motive for the shooting was not known.” Link

Police did not find out about it from school officials; instead, a state police officer whose son is on the team learned of the allegations through his wife, a camp volunteer. The alleged ringleader was expelled from school. The others — some of them veteran members of the highly successful team — were suspended through the end of the school year.
