Brits Coldplay, Leona Lewis Top iTunes Sales For 2008

Coldplay’s Viva la Vida was the best-selling album on iTunes for 2008, the music downloading service has announced. The album featuring frontman Chris Martin (a.k.a. Mr. Gwyneth Paltrow) has sold more than 2 million copies since being released in June – and has sold more than 500,000 digitally, the Associated Press reports. Another Brit, Leona Lewis, claimed the year’s top-selling single with her addictively catchy hit ‘Bleeding Love.’ ” [Link]

“‘If the [iTunes music store] was forced to absorb any increase in the … royalty rate, the result would be to significantly increase the likelihood of the store operating at a financial loss - which is no alternative at all,’ Cue wrote. ‘Apple has repeatedly made it clear that it is in this business to make money, and most likely would not continue to operate [the iTunes music store] if it were no longer possible to do so profitably.’” [Link]
