Apple Beats Expectations With Third Quarter 2009 Results

“The Cupertino, Calif. company reported stronger-than-expected revenue and better unit volumes for all its product lines. Wall Street had forecast sales of about 2.5 million Macs, and the company sold 2.6 million. The popular iPhone, which had a major software upgrade along with a new, pricier model this quarter, had sales of 5.2 million units. That was up from expectations of about 5 million. The iPod also exceeded predictions, with Apple selling 10.2 million iPods, versus forecasts of 10 million.” Link

“Demand for Apple’s laptops appeared to fade following the holiday shopping season, according to a survey of 3,476 consumers by research firm ChangeWave. In a blog post, ChangeWave writes that a survey taken January 5-12 found sagging overall PC demand – and asserts that Apple ‘will be especially hard hit this quarter by the continued economic downturn.’” [Link]

Apple Announces New 17" Macbook Pro At Macworld 2009

Phil Schiller, the senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing for Apple Inc. revealed the brand new 17″ Macbook Pro today at Macworld 2009 in San Francisco. Schiller said the 17″ Macbook Pro is “the world’s lightest and thinnest 17 inch notebook”. Apple claims that the battery life is 8 hours. The new 17″ Macbook Pro will cost $2799.

Dell Adamo May Be Macbook Air Rival

“The NY Times dug up some of Dell’s trademarks and they included “Adamo” and “Adamo by Dell.” Sounds pretty posh, doesn’t it? We’re not sure if it is going to be just one computer or a whole line of desktops and notebooks. Rumor has it that one of the upcoming models might be even thinner than the MacBook Air” [Link]

New Mac OS Causing Crashes

Apple’s latest update to its Leopard operating system, OS X 10.5.6, appears to be creating more problems than it’s fixing on users’ Macs. A day after the software was released via Apple’s download service, users flooded the company’s online support forum with hundreds of complaints about the upgrade.
