Murder Suspect Steven Kelsey To Be Examined In Feb.
“Steven Kelsey will appear in 52-1 District Court on Thursday, Feb. 19 for a preliminary examination on murder charges stemming from his sister Jesika Kelsey’s stabbing death, after waiving a preliminary exam on Wednesday, Jan. 7. According to Michael McCarthy, Kelsey’s court-appointed defense attorney, a decision hasn’t been made on whether Steven Kelsey will undergo a psychiatric evaluation.” [Link]

“Christine Beatty, once an influential figure at Detroit City Hall, waved goodbye to loved ones as she was ushered from a courtroom to begin a 120-day jail stay for obstruction of justice. She will serve her term in Wayne County jail, where Kilpatrick has been serving an identical sentence since late October. Beatty and Kilpatrick, both 38, were charged with lying about their affair under oath during a 2007 civil trial on claims that two police officers were punished for investigating alleged wrongdoing in the mayor’s inner circle.” [Link]

“Visitation began this morning for 17-year-old Jesika Kelsey, found stabbed to death in a bedroom of her home in nearby Highland Township on Jan. 1. Her 19-year-old brother, Steven Michael Kelsey, has been charged in the slaying and has reportedly made statements implicating he killed his sister when she rejected sexual advances. Her family requested that services at the church be private, reserved for family and friends only, a church employee said.” [Link]

Steven Kelsey was a soldier home on leave from Army boot camp at Fort Jackson. Kelsey’s army dog tags were found at the scene of Jesika Kelsey’s murder.
